Revised OLA

March 31, 2009 at 12:42 am (Uncategorized)

I was thankfully able to get a little feed back on the first run of this design. It was pointed out to me rounded corners were a bit dated and rather exhausted . I agree. I think the “bubble look” was a bit overwhelming.

To fix the drab mess, I toned down the shadows and bevel to make it less “plastic” and pulled out the edges a little.

The spacing consistency was a little off balance as well. Too bottom heavy, so I pushed the text up a little, shrunk the top space and gave the bottom above the footer some breathing room. Thinking about usability and search engine issues, I made sure to include obvious navigation at the top and bottom of page.

Stepping back and looking at the revisions, I feel the page is far better. It’s very user friendly, nice on the eyes and will serve its purpose with a little simple style. Below is the link, feel free to comment as it will only help in the process, thanks.

Looks good to me. I wonder if the faculty will adopt any of these designs our class has produced. The current designs could use improvement — the math department is the worst, right?

I think it looks very good with great balance and use of white space. I think both the color scheme and shapes work well together as well.

Personally I think that this design was the best preview in our class that day. In addition your previous work for the Banner contest was also the best of all presented in our class, and I am somewhat surprised that it did not win the contest. While there is nothing inherently wrong with the design that won, I am perplexed that his entry was not disqualified outright.

Perhaps he was operating from under a different set of qualifications or rules, but I recall that it was made clear to us in our class that a photograph was not to be central to the execution but rather vectors were, and thus use of vectors was the point of the exercise.

Thanks George, thats encouraging. I always second guess myself. Your work is great too. Here’s an idea, since your a photographer, try incorporating your talent of pictures into your work. Do you have access to a scanner? I think it would be very original and fresh! Thanks for the comments, see you next week.
