Portfolio designs, cogs crankin

OK, so I dont know which direction I want to go with this. I had been working on the first design (I made the gist of a home pg and an about pg). The design is pretty cool. I used an painting of smashed bottles and house paint for my header and footer, then pulled colors from that to get the rest of the page.

I think this design works really well b/c I’ve outined the layout of the site and all seems to be fitting okay. Please let me know what you think:

Then I had this ridiculous, crazy idea to take a painting I did and clip these evil ladies out to use for the main nav. The idea is as you rollover them, each one down the line will blow out a gust of wind saying “ABOUT”, “PORTFOLIO”,… the only thing is, this set up, the way it stands, is more of a splash page design. I cant do a splash page b/c it wont be read by the search engine ) : So, even though the idea is nice, the overall reality is it just wont be the better choice. You can take a look at my ideas though:

*(The way it was made was with each nav being a separate pg. I see no real need to fix this to the rollover statew/ all residing on the same pg as I probably wont do anything with this design …so to view it, just imagine that as you hover over a girl, she’ll blow out her cloud of nav to that pg.)

Number 2 is brilliant! Or as Meagan might put it, “Like I like it.”

Afterthought to the comment posted above: Maybe somebody who knows more about this than I do could come up with a suggestion that would make it possible to do both — that is, make the words readable by search engines at the same time they could be activated by rolling a mouse over each cloud. Could the typeface for the search engine be made very faint, almost invisible to the human eye but visible to search engines? Just a thought.

If it doesn’t work, no great loss. Design Number 1 is beautiful too.

I would love to see the second idea – windy women! – incorporated as an example of both your artwork and as an animation example, in your portfolio page?
